• What are Super Dollfie? Super Dollfie (or SD) are made by Volks in Japan, a company that has been making high quality models and resin figure kits for over 30 years. They started with resin figure kits, etc, and then eventually moved into 1/6 scale "dollfie" dolls as well. Super Dollfies themselves all started basically when Mr. Enku sculpted a one-off a kind doll (SD size and style) for his wife. The doll used old stringing and ball-joint techniques that were developed at least a hundred ago in Europe, but the doll had a very expressive look and a bit more developed balljoints. (For more information on old-style balljoint dolls see Jumeau Tete Bebe, Gebruder Kuhnlenz and Schoenau and Hoffmeister. ) An executive director saw the doll and wondered if they would be made in larger numbers. The first Super Dollfie was made in 1998 and were Sara/Kira/Nana/Megu, etc (all with the same headmold of course). They are dolls, yes, and more. They combine the beauty of the Japanese aesthetic sense, and the companionability of dolls with the resin figure finishing and painting hobby to create something altogether new and wonderful. Volks says, "Your SD is born from your heart and subconscious mind. It is your dearest partner, growing with you day by day and sharing endless time with you. She is an understanding partner, in touch with those who are aware of her magic. The times you will spend with her will be wonderful, because she can reach the real you!" The idea is then, that Super Dollfie are made to be special just for you. Keep in mind that Volk's motto is "We Seek Creativity"! They're made to be customized specially for the owner, not to sit on a shelf or sit in a box. Volks wants you to take the doll and make it a reflection of you, or a special companion. The name Dollfie comes from joining the words Doll and Figure, because they really are more than normal dolls. Volks started out with a 1/6 range of jointed Dollfie, then later expanded to include a range of much larger dolls, hence the name SUPER Dollfie. SDs have joints in their necks, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, (and for some of them, in their torsos) allowing them to be posed in any number of ways. They can sit, stand, lean over, hold out their arms for a hug.. in all ways, they mimic life. They are large and heavy and have a certain way of commanding your attention. Often referred to as Precious Daughters and Sons by Volks, Super Dollfie are individually cast and assembled from Volks molds in Japan, not made by machine or in volume in foreign factories. All phases of the process are done by hand with strict quality controls.

Benvenuti nel mio sito web dedicato al mondo, ancora poco conosciuto, delle Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. Cosi' come dice il nome, letteralmente la traduzione sarebbe "Bambole asiatiche con le giunture a sfera" e tecnicamente sono proprio questo. Le BJD (Acronimo che le indica) sono bambole create su vasta scala per la prima volta da una casa giapponese di bambole e modellismo, la Volks. A differenza delle bambole di porcellana che tutti conosciamo, le BJD sono fatte da una resina poliuretana molto resistente che le rende sicuramente piu' maneggevoli e meno pesanti delle bambole di porcellana e, in alcuni casi, infinitamente piu' posabili. Uno degli innegabili punti di forza di queste bambole e' nella personalizzazione piu' "estrema": le bambole sono prodotte e vendute in molti casi appena assemblate, pronte ad essere personalizzate secondo il gusto del proprietario, con occhi intercambiabili di varie forme, colori e materiali; parrucche di ogni tipo e stile e abiti che spaziano dai classici abiti da "damina" che ricordano le nostre bambole di porcellana, fino ad abiti cyber punk, gothic lolita, medioevali, fantastici etc...Innegabile punto di debolezza delle BJD che, come molti oggetti da collezione, le rende un prodotto ancora di nicchia, è il prezzo, sicuramente non alla portata di tutti, che le innalza al ruolo di "costosissimi oggetti da collezione"...In questo contesto si inseriscono siti web dedicati alle foto dei collezionisti, a volte vere e proprie opere di arte fotografica, che sono il corollario del collezionare BJD. Di sicuro il collezionista medio di BJD (se si puo' definire un termine del genere per un collezionismo già di elite') e' qualcuno che, se non aveva mai preso in mano una macchina fotografica, ha cominciato da quando colleziona BJD, perche' non c'e' niente che dia piu' soddisfazione ad un fiero collezionista che mostrare le foto dei propri tesori ad altri che possono capirne la bellezza e la rarita'! La rarita' e' un'altra particolarita' di queste dolls: le case che producono queste dolls (che sono tante, piu' di quante si immagini!) mettono spesso in vendita edizioni speciali in numero limitatissimo, a volte gia' quantificato, altre volte (come nel caso della Volks) in numero limitato ma sconosciuto! Se vi interessa sapere di piu' su queste meravigliose bambole, potete venire sul forum di Dollmania, dove molti collezionisti italiani si riuniscono e dove troverete informazioni, FAQ e molto altro riguardante il mondo non solo delle BJD ma anche delle fashon dolls e delle bambole orientali in genere (Pullip, Blythe, etc...).
In questa gallery ci sono le mie Ball Jointed Dolls. SD e' l'acronimo di Super Dollfie, un termine coniato dalla Volks ed ora usato per definire tutte le BJD di misura fra i 56 e i 60cm..MSD sta per Mini Super Dollfie, ed identifica le dolls di misura inferiore ai 56cm. Nella mia gallery le dolls sono indicate in base al loro nome, mentre le dolls di grandezza inferiore alle SD sono in una gallery a parte. Durante questi due anni di collezionismo, ho comprato e rivenduto moltissime dolls, quindi per non perderne memoria, visto che dietro ad ognuna c'e' stata una storia legata al suo acquisto e alla sua vendita, ho inserito anche una sezione per le Dolls Adopted (bambole adottate). Oltre alle gallerie di immagini, nel menu' trovate anche il link alle gallerie di deviantART e Flickr, che ospitano le mie foto in formato piu' grande, adatto per chi vuole vedere le dolls in ogni dettaglio! Nei links vari ci sono i siti web degli altri collezionisti che conosco, dei forums dedicati alle BJD e di altre cose che non c'entrano con le dolls!
